At AB Precision Grinding, continuous improvement isn’t just a phrase - it’s how we operate. From upgrading machines to refining internal processes, we’re always looking for ways to improve efficiency, safety, and quality. Our latest investment is a perfect example of that commitment: the installation of two brand-new overhead cranes - a 5-ton and a 7.5-ton unit.

5 ton and 7.5 ton crane

These cranes aren’t just additions - they’re replacements for our two aging 5-ton cranes, which had served us well over the years but were due for retirement. The new cranes represent a meaningful upgrade in nearly every way: increased capacity, improved reliability, enhanced safety features, and an immediate boost to our operational flexibility.

Why This Upgrade Matters

Precision grinding often involves large, heavy parts. Whether we’re loading workpieces onto one of our seven Blanchard grinders or maneuvering tooling across the shop floor, safe and efficient lifting is a must. Here’s what the new cranes bring to the table:

  • Higher Capacity = Greater Flexibility: The addition of a 7.5-ton crane gives us more headroom to handle unusually large or heavy jobs, while the new 5-ton model replaces our older unit with better technology and smoother operation.

  • Increased Safety: Modern control systems, smoother starts and stops, and updated safety features reduce risk to both operators and parts during lifts. This is especially important when working near delicate grinding surfaces and custom setups.

  • Reduced Downtime for Maintenance: With improved reliability and more lifting power, our maintenance team can now access machines and overhead systems more easily - meaning faster repairs, less downtime, and improved uptime for customers.

A Strategic Investment in Capability -

The upgrade aligns with our broader modernization effort, which includes digital systems, quality certification (more on that in future posts), and expanded compliance. Our clients depend on us to be a trusted link in their supply chain, and that means having not just the skill, but the infrastructure to handle demanding jobs efficiently.

If you’ve got a heavy, oversized, or complex project, we’re ready - and now better equipped - to deliver.
